We are getting our first glance of college football life slowly returning to normal this weekend. The SEC is all in with more viewing enjoyment than we’ve had all season. Even with four games canceled/postponed due to COVID reasons, we still have 29 games this Saturday alone. In addition to every SEC team, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, UCF, Louisville, Iowa State, TCU, Virginia, Boston College, SMU, Florida State, and Baylor are all in action! And I will provide DFS analysis on every one of Saturday’s games exclusively for Fantasy Points’ premium subscribers. This half will cover the games played between 12:00 until 3:30 PM ET. The second will contain the remainder of matchups. Without further delay, let’s get started.
Kansas State @ Oklahoma

The Sooners’ defense is not impermeable. Look no further than last year’s matchup between these teams when Skylar Thompson threw down 36.8 FPS, including four rushing TDs. Thompson can be counted on for a near-even ground attempt split with the RB pair of Harry Trotter and Deuce Vaughn. However, based on last year’s usage, Thompson is the only DFS target of the three since he also handles the majority of GL work. Thompson revealed his rock solid connection with Northern Iowa transfer TE Briley Moore last week with a robust 24 percent target share. Moore really impressed me with his receiving skills against Arkansas State. He is one of my go-to salary savers this week.
To say the OU offense clicked with Spencer Rattler in the lead would fall a bit short of representing reality. Yes, he faced off with Missouri State’s FCS defense, but it was his pocket presence and seeing the ball jump off his hands that so definitively screams a perfect fit as a Lincoln Riley QB. It shouldn’t come as a shock that he’s equipped with a dangerous list of weapons at WR. Let’s just say that the Oklahoma offense is somewhat of a stacking option. Flanker Charleston Rambo will see a similar target share provided to CeeDee Lamb last season (24 percent). If you do not know the name Marvin Mims, backup to Rambo at Oklahoma’s juicy Z receiver spot, you’ll be hearing the name often. Mims shredded top-100 nationally ranked Lone Star High’s opposition for 33.9 FPG the last two seasons.
Marshall transfer (via transfer from Oklahoma State) Obi Obialo also holds a bit of potential out of the slot. The split end role will be shared by Theo Wease, UCLA transfer Theo Howard, and Trejan Bridges. Bridges and Rhamondre Stevenson will return from suspension for this matchup. I have a feeling we’ll see them get a good amount of touches this week after Riley made it public that he thoroughly opposed their suspensions. Finally, like Obialo, T.J. Pledger returns from missing last week's game for COVID reasons. Although, his expected return was not considered within his DK salary. He sits atop the DC by himself priced at 72 percent of Marcus Major’s salary, setting him up as a considerable value. Major’s play did not impress me last week. But true frosh Seth McGowan displayed a versatility that reminds me a bit of Joe Mixon. He could get a big chunk of mop-up duty if the Sooners put this game away early enough.

The Gators carry quite a bit of momentum on offense from last season with Kyle Trask under center. He may not get the accolades of other QBs possessing NFL traits, but don’t let that fool you. Trask will play at the next level. But he doesn’t use his legs enough for cash game consideration. Even with its collection of top prospects, I’m taking a wait-and-see approach with the Florida WRs. However, Kyle Pitts is one of the top-three TEs in the country. The true junior should get a good bump to his 17 percent target share with 41 percent of receiver targets up for grabs. Facing a deficient Ole Miss run defense, Dameon Pierce could make for a worthy investment.
I’ll admit it… I’m a stubborn man. I’m listing John Rhys Plumlee as the 1A co-starter over Matt Corral despite the expectation that the latter will get the first shot. Even with the immense talent from Elijah Moore and Jonathan Mingo, I do not feel comfortable rostering them with Corral leading the offense and facing a nasty UF secondary. That entirely explains why having the truly elite running potential of Plumlee trumps the slight upgrade of Corral’s arm. Either way, Kenny Yeboah must be considered both due to HC Lane Kiffin’s history of heavily targeting TEs and since new Passing Game Coordinator Joe Jon Finley left Texas A&M as its TE coach. These factors are so compelling that I am listing Yeboah as a chalk play. Fingers crossed that I don’t end up regreting the decision. Finally, Jerrion Ealy’s elite talent may be squandered by a two- or even three-headed timeshare.

It was pretty disappointing to learn that former top prospect Joey Gatewood will be held out due to possible ineligibility in a potential revenge game facing his former school. Though not all is lost with Terry Wilson returning from knee surgery. Wilson’s running ability will never be compared to Lynn Bowden’s but he does have the arm to feed his receivers. HC Mark Stoops made it a point to announce that Josh Ali will have a big year and I am listening. He is listed as the starting flanker and backup slot on the initial DC. At his basement salaries and likely never leaving the field, I am all in. The RBs, however, will continue to be hindered by approximate 30-20-15 timeshare percentages.
One of the most promising defensive minds in college football, DC Brad White’s crew can always be expected to bring a fierce pass rush. That may force Bo Nix to use his legs a bit more this week. He’ll have Seth Williams return at his 27 percent target share along with the fastest player in the nation, Anthony Schwartz. With this game expected to remain close, a potential stack of Nix-Williams or all three could be both underowned and profitable. Just don’t go too far with it beyond dipping your finger. And I get it. Auburn recruits an influx of top talent each season. In order to spread the love, they list quite a few co-starters on their DCs. However, I am not buying the initial DC listing three other backs sharing the ball with D.J. Williams. The man is simply one of the top talents at RB in the nation. Edgerrin James’ nephew carved up the SEC as a true freshman last season. Consider him, at the very least, alongside the top plays at RB on Saturday.

A great matchup between a pair of teams fueling a variety of DFS weapons. The Cardinals’ leading man, Micale Cunningham, is averaging nearly 30 FPG through strong passing (21.5 yards/TD), solid carry share (22 percent), and GL attempts (40 percent). He has formed a strong connection with both Tutu Atwell and Dez Fitzpatrick with 25 percent target shares apiece. Atwell, in particular, has been nothing short of phenomenal in catching 83 percent of his targets and adds a healthy 3.3 FPG on screen passes alone. The pair essentially remain planted on the field for maximum potential. While I’ll never love the fact that Javian Hawkins doesn’t do much as a receiver, he does enough on the ground to make him a solid play at a near 60 percent attempt share.
Kenny Pickett is not the flashiest of DFS QBs but he gets the job done. It certainly helps to ignite support from your fanbase when you average 31.7 yards/TD pass. The fact that he simply doesn’t his his legs (9 percent attempt share) sets himself up for a basement floor. It’s the risk you run when exposing him to your LUs. A go-to receiver for Pickett emerged in this offseason without displaying any signs of slowing down. Jordan Addison has provided his offense with 14 receptions over two games on a 25 percent target share. To top it off, he is adding 2.0 FPG with his legs. I want to believe that Vincent Davis will run away with the lead role, but he just doesn’t do enough on passing downs to keep me patient. The potential return of Taysir Mack, I’ve heard that one before, muddies the waters for DJ Turner and Jared Wayne.

The Yellow Jackets’ triple-option offense is a thing of the past, but this remains a run-heavy attack. Jeff Sims possesses the skills to sling the rock and use his long legs to churn yards on the ground. Sims has staked a 32 percent claim on GT carries for a solid 8.3 run FPG. Jordan Mason sat out last week amid rumors circulating he had broken his ankle. But, since he is once again listed on the participation chart, I’ve marked him down as if he’ll play. We need to monitor the situation. If he’s out, Jahmyr Gibbs will see a big jump in value. If Mason plays, Gibbs would fall to tourney dart-only status. Syracuse has one rosterable player: Taj Harris. He could still multiply his value with a negative game script despite his salary starting to catch up to his play.
UPDATE: Jordan Mason will reportedly miss this game afterall. A broken ankle cannot be ruled out with GTs refusal to properly report injuries. Fire up Gibbs!

The Cyclone offense is just too talented to write off after a poor performance against Louisiana. Brock Purdy posted a 19 percent carry share versus ULL which was only a slight drop from the 25 percent from last season. The issue was with moving the ball through the air. Purdy generating less FPS through the air (3.8) than on the ground (4.1) is likely attributed to the absence of Charlie Kolar. ISU appears to be getting their elite TE back this week to pull some of that attention away from WRs Tarique Milton and Xavier Hutchinson. While TCU is certainly no slouch on defense, Breece Hall will also be in play holding a 63 percent carry share and outstanding talent.
On the other side, the TCU coaches are playing games with their initial depth chart. Max Duggan received clearance this week, yet he is listed as the 1B to Matthew Downing’s 1A. But we simply cannot overlook the possibility that they hold Duggan out as a precaution. At RB, five-star true frosh Zach Evans is buried behind multiple backs. It would be so nice to get some clarification on this situation prior to game time, but don’t hold your breath. Without any idea how the carry situation shakes out, as difficult as it will be, fading TCU RBs is the risk averse strategy. Finally, at WR, proven DFS darling, Nebraska transfer, JD Spielman is listed as 2B in the slot behind Taye Barber, and Derius Davis. I am drawing the line here. Spielman is the TCU receiver to target with Barber as a solid tourney dart.

I am looking forward to this one folks. The Mississippi State debut of Air Raid guru Mike Leach against the defending champs sans Joe Burrow. Take a moment to look over the WRs on the Bulldogs’ initial depth chart. It may seem to be a lot of WRs, but he’ll play every single one of them in a mad rotation. However, plenty of value exists. Malik Heath, JaVonta Payton, and Tyrell Shavers can all be had for a song on both platforms. Osiris Mitchell holds the top salary despite currently positioned behind Shavers. All four receivers are worthy tournament darts. The player I’m going after with maximum exposure is K.J. Costello. He’ll likely pass the ball 40-to-50 times on Saturday with an excellent negative script expected as 16.5 point ‘dogs. But I will be fading Kylin Hill entirely at his salary against the ferocious LSU defense.
The Tigers will be replacing 48 percent of ‘19 targets with the losses of Justin Jefferson, Ja'Marr Chase (opt out), and Derrick Dillon. I am not concerned. Enter true freshmen Kayshon Boutte and Arik Gilbert. Boutte -- along with Jeff Sims -- stole the show at the 2020 Under Armour All-American Game. As far as I’m concerned, the three top true frosh WRs are Julian Fleming, Marvin Mims, and Boutte. Gilbert could hold his own if he stepped onto an NFL field today. And let’s not forget about Terrace Marshall Jr. or Racey McMath. In fact, I am more concerned that Myles Brennan will end up being passed by Max Johnson (Brad Johnson’s son) than I am about LSU having enough weapons. The current LSU RB situation is a mess. Chris Curry will likely see the first opportunity with very talented backs (John Emery Jr. and Tyrion Davis-Price) breathing down his neck.

This has the makings of another classic clash in Lubbock. Sam Ehlinger will lead a stacked offense against Alan Bowman’s underrated Red Raider assault. Both QBs have enormous upside with such an array of weapons at their disposal. On the ground we have Keaontay Ingram and SaRodorick Thompson. Ingram will likely see more work this week than he did facing UTEP. Thompson is a multidimensional threat who thrives against top competition. Ehlinger will have his No. 1 on the field for the first time this season in Jake Smith. Joshua Moore and Tarik Black round out an explosive trio of dynamic playmakers. T.J. Vasher, Erik Ezukanma, and KeSean Carter provide Bowman with more than enough weapons to eclipse the implied 26.25 points for Texas Tech. Get your stacks ready, folks.
UPDATE: Despite HC Tom Herman reporting earlier in the week that Jake Smith would return this week, he will sit this game out due to COVID protocols. It’s really tough to tell who will take on his snaps. Could be Kai Money, Brenden Schooler, or a combination of the two. It does, however, reduce the -18.0 line in favor of Texas Tech, in my view.

The Bearcats’ defense didn’t perform as well as I expected against Austin Peay. In particular, they allowed the Governors to rack up 140 yards on the ground and a pair of TDs. Much of that damage was done by C.J. Evans Jr. at a 7.3 YPA clip. Run defense shortcomings spell trouble when the Army triple-option is coming to town. Christian Anderson does nothing through the air, so his rushing totals are worthless unless he uncharacteristically hogs goalline carries. However, fullback Sandon McCoy could prove to be a sneaky, under-owned tourney pivot. He is TD-dependent, but a trio of scores from the Black Knights’ GL back would look mighty nice in LUs.
Cincinnati’s offense, on the other hand, wrecked Austin Peay. The Army defense will come out foaming at the mouth, as always, on the first couple drives. I do not expect them to intimidate Desmond Ridder. The WR rotation is still working its way out after running for 276 yards last week, so it may be best to fade the group this week. Gerrid Doaks didn’t exactly shred the FBS opponent on the ground with 20 yards on 10 carries. But he handled five-of-six GL carries, scoring three TDs, and scored another through the air to generate 36.4 FPS. Jerome Ford, Charles McClelland, and Ryan Montgomery will split Doak’s leavings in a fadable secondary timeshare.

Oklahoma State’s offensive line appeared to be outmatched at times against Tulsa last week. Granted, they lost star QB Spencer Sanders on the first drive, but they never gave Chuba Hubbard any room to work. I consider it an insult to Shane Illingworth that HC Mike Gundy continued to list Ethan Bullock second on the depth chart. Without Illingworth, the Cowboys likely lose the game last week. Without Illingworth, Tylan Wallace would still be standing on the sidelines wondering when he was going to see a target. We need to monitor reports on Sanders’ health heading into Saturday since his salaries enticingly reflect his injury. Illingworth didn’t exactly light the world on fire, so he will be a reasonably easy fade at a very similar price. But he got Wallace and Hubbard going, most importantly. Wallace, however, will be someone I’ll target, regardless. His salary dropped just a tad from last week. I think he’ll come away with one of the performances we’re so used to seeing from him. Hubbard’s salary did not drop. But his carry (61 percent) and GL share (33 percent) did drop from last season’s (65 percent and 69 percent, respectively). But one week is certainly nowhere near enough to write him off.
The Mountaineers, as expected, played a consistent game on both sides of the ball against Eastern Kentucky. The Tulsa RB situation plummeted to fourth string, at times, while doing nothing against Okie State. So, we really have no run defense evaluation from that game to help us project matching up to WVUs backfield. But Leddie Brown looked mighty good as the lead back. Jarret Doege will not have it so easy this week and must be on his game. His lack of running game involvement renders him as an easy fade. I think Sam James will be the focus of the passing attack with T.J. Simmons, returning from suspension, an excellent tourney dart. James is a PPR asset who only scored a pair of TDs on 120 targets making him far more appealing on DK. Simmons’ lid-lifting prowess could result in several completed bombs, or he could flame out, as he has done on occasion in the past.
