For a massive undertaking like Fantasy Points Data, we need a large team of dedicated and educated charting professionals to ensure that we can get statistics posted on the website both accurately and quickly.
While the data-charting process is, by nature, objective, our team will obviously form opinions about what they saw, given that we have to watch every play multiple times.
Every week, we’ll select the most notable observations and back them up with the objective data we’ve become known for.
Here are our top observations for 2025 NFL Week 2.
Week 1 Data Charter Observations
1. “The Lions played bully ball all night running right into the teeth of the Ravens defense. David Montgomery reminded everyone that he is still a monster in the run game, ripping off multiple big runs and hitting the hole with authority. Meanwhile, Jahmyr Gibbs had some tough sledding, but his speed is something to behold. When he gets to the edge, there aren’t many people who can hit the top gear speed that he has. You can see why play action is such a lethal cheat code for this offense.”
Week 3 was capped off with the Lions taking down the Ravens in a potential Super Bowl preview by a final score of 38-30. RBs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs led the way with 34 carries for 218 yards and 4 touchdowns combined, as the Ravens struggled to slow the duo down. Where the Lions had the most success was on man run concepts as they ripped off 173 yards and 2 touchdowns on 16 carries, good for a 75.0% success rate. Montgomery especially took advantage of excellent blocking up front with 3.67 YBCO/ATT, including a long 72-yard run and another 31-yard touchdown run to seal the game, where the blocking was perfect.
QB Jared Goff takes advantage of this running game by ranking near the top of the league in yards on play-action passes. He only attempted 5 passes on play action, completing 4 for 50 yards, in Week 3, but he picked up a crucial 4th down late in the game on a dime to WR Amon-Ra St. Brown. The play calling was perfect on this play as the Lions had used short motion to insert a WR through the line of scrimmage all night before leaking St. Brown out on the 4th down to allow him to get open for a big gain. The Lions have a strength-on-strength matchup in Week 4 as they host the Browns’ top-ranked run defense.
2. “When Philly plays from behind, this offense is absolutely potent. AJ Brown looked like the AJ Brown we know and love, really making us forget about his Week 1 disASSter. Play calling was fine here, but really I think it’s Philly’s star power that made it work. Big players made big plays.”
Another week, another win for the Eagles as they came from behind to beat the Rams 33-26 in Week 3. Much was made of the Eagles’ lack of success in the passing game, but when the Eagles needed it, QB Jalen Hurts delivered. Hurts finished the game 21/32 for 226 yards and 3 touchdowns, with 209 yards and all 3 touchdowns coming in the second half. With the Rams jumping out to a lead, Hurts was forced to push the ball down the field more, which led to him posting an 8.3 aDOT and a 68.8 1READ%, up from 5.8 and 57.6% in Week 1 and 2.
WRs AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith heated up with the Eagles throwing more, as they combined for 169 yards and 2 touchdowns on 14 catches. Both players are just so difficult to defend as they posted a 0.114 and a 0.229 ASS, respectively, in Week 3. The Eagles face off with another prime NFC opponent in Week 4 with a road matchup in Tampa against the Bucs.
3. “We are seeing some consistently poor offensive line play across the league. Some by teams we fully expected to be problematic, and some others that maybe we didn’t envision. The Texans' OL was absolutely one we questioned all offseason. This doesn’t blend well with CJ Stroud’s hero ball mentality, which we often criticize Caleb Williams about. Stroud has many similar tendencies, and his willingness to invite chaos into his life is accelerating due to the poor offensive protection. This is leading to a lot of poor/inaccurate throws, inevitably turnovers, and a ton of underneath throws.”
The Texans fell to 0-3 after struggling to get their offense going in a 17-10 loss to the Jaguars in Week 3. Now sitting in last in the NFL in points scored with just 38 points through 3 games, QB CJ Stroud is struggling behind a subpar offensive line. Stroud is averaging just 199.7 YDS/G due in large part to a -3.4% CPOE (30th), a 20.2 OFF% (24th), and a 9.41% PrROE (22nd). Simply put, Stroud has not been able to get on the same page with his receivers and the Texans have not been able to score as a result.
A bright spot for this offense was WR Nico Collins finally posted a big game. Collins caught 8 of 11 targets for 104 yards and a touchdown, while posting a solid win rate of 17.6%. The Texans did get WR Christian Kirk back, as Kirk played on 66.1% of snaps, albeit for just 3 catches and 25 yards. Stroud and the Texans are entering must-win territory next week, when they host the Titans in a battle of 0-3 teams.
4. “Jaylen Warren is the perfect type of complement back for an Aaron Rodgers-led offense. Incredibly reliable in pass protection, good enough hands for checkdowns and outlet passes, and just enough wiggle to turn a bad play into a good play. Add in the fact that Warren and Kenny Gainwell are easily interchangeable, and there is no reason to change the rotation of this backfield. For some teams, reliability is more valuable than athleticism, I think we have seen a track record of that with Rodgers at the helm.”
The Steelers took advantage of five turnovers in Week 3, en route to a 21-14 victory over the Patriots. Despite the offense only posting 203 total yards, RB Jaylen Warren accounted for nearly 40.0% of the Steelers' yardage output with 81 total yards on 23 touches. Warren has faced tough sledding up front with 0.70 YBCO/ATT, but has been able to fight for yards with 0.26 MTF/ATT and 2.37 YACO/ATT. The passing game has been the area where Warren has excelled, as he currently ranks 3rd in receiving yards among RBs with 142 yards, and he has proven to be just as difficult to tackle in the open field with 0.64 MTF/REC. Warren’s play has landed rookie RB Kaleb Johnson squarely in the dog house after Johnson did not see the field in Week 3. The Steelers travel to Ireland to take on a tough Vikings defense in Week 4.
5. “The Bo Nix struggle is real. The QB is dancing in the pocket, throwing without setting his feet, and forcing inaccurate throws, all while missing wide-open receivers in clutch moments. Every metric shows that the offensive line is getting push in the run game, and giving Nix plenty of time to throw.”
Despite holding a lead late in the 4th quarter, the Broncos were unable to hold on for the second straight week as Denver dropped to 1-2 following a 23-20 loss to the Chargers. QB Bo Nix struggled to sustain drives, finishing the game with 153 passing yards and one touchdown on 14 of 25 passing. Accuracy is the biggest issue for Nix to this point as he ranks near the bottom of the league with 51.6 ACC% (26th), 68.4 CATCH% (31st), and 23.2 OFF% (30th). The offensive line is holding up its end, allowing only 1 sack and 34 pressures, which gives Nix the 6th-best pressure rate at 31.8%.
Broncos’ pass catchers are getting open as Courtland Sutton (0.210), Troy Franklin (0.041), and Marvin Mims (0.239) all posted positive ASS scores. Nix also started off last season a bit slow before playing well down the stretch. Week 4 offers a good opportunity for this passing game to get in sync with a home matchup against the Bengals’ porous pass defense on tap.
6. “Rome Odunze is clearly Caleb Williams’ favorite option when plays break down and first reads. He’s clearly taken a step up over last season, as you can tell from his win rates both against Man and Zone coverages. He’s also lining up in the slot more than expected and running a lot of horizontal and intermediate routes (which lead to stronger fantasy production). I’d have him in the WR1 conversation weekly given the shootout potential, role, and talent.”
Bears’ WR Rome Odunze scored in his third straight game, leading the Bears to a much-needed 31-14 victory over the Cowboys. Odunze continues to be one of the more productive WRs through 3 games with 3 catches for 62 yards and his fourth touchdown of the season. HC Ben Johnson is dialing more horizontally breaking routes for Odunze, which has led to Odunze posting an elite 33.3% win rate on those routes.
Although some of the production can be credited to facing the Cowboys’ weak pass defense, QB Caleb Williams played well, tying a career-high in passing touchdowns with 4 in Week 3. He also showed off improved accuracy by posting a 64.3 ACC%, up from 47.7% across the first two weeks of the season. The Bears will look to build on the productive passing output next week against a Raiders defense that has allowed the 10th most passing yards on the season (736 yards).
7. “George Pickens did not stand out on tape, even with CeeDee Lamb being out — he seemed to play his exact same role. We can’t say that will stay the same - he’s learning a new scheme and QB, and there was a clear gameplan heading into this game that he was prepared for. The Cowboys could look to put him in the Lamb role in Week 4 or give him another week or two to get up to speed and then unleash him.”
The Cowboys passing game struggled after star WR CeeDee Lamb exited Sunday’s aforementioned 31-14 loss to the Bears. Offseason addition WR George Pickens only saw a slight bump in target share on his way to 5 catches on 9 targets for 68 yards and a touchdown. Pickens owned a 20.0% target share after registering 11.8% in Week 1 and 15.4% in Week 2. Now with Lamb out for the next few weeks, the Cowboys will likely be forced to boost Pickens’ target share.
Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson stepped up in Lamb’s place with 13 catches on 14 targets for 82 yards in Week 3. While Ferguson served as an outlet for QB Dak Prescott, the Cowboys will need to find a more downfield threat as Ferguson posted just 44 air yards and a lowly 3.1 aDOT. The Cowboys get a difficult test in Week 4 when they host the Packers in Micah Parsons’ return to Dallas.
Bonus Observations
Packers WR Matthew Golden — Matthew Golden has been electric on tape, consistently generating separation, ranking 5th in ASS through the first three weeks. The production was not there yet as Love missed two deep balls in week two that would have put Golden at 2 catches for 123 yards and 2 TDs. Golden just needs more opportunities as he ranks 4th on the Packers in target share at 10.3%.
Browns WR Isaiah Bond — One player who looked solid on tape and the Browns seem to trust is Isaiah Bond. Bond had a 55.3% route participation with 4 targets. In this WR room, his speed is desperately needed with Jerry Jeudy and Cedric Tillman the other two WRs in three WR sets for the team. Of the 21 routes run in the game, Bond was in the slot 57.1% of the time.
Broncos RB JK Dobbins — JK Dobbins looks like he’s fully healthy again. He looks REALLY good right now. He’s explosive, he's handling contact well, and he’s deadly in the open field. Dobbins has posted a solid 12.2 EXP RUN% and has made people miss at a 0.22 MTF/ATT rate.
Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson — Henderson looked a lot like a rookie in this one. He was a bit hesitant to hit the hole and didn’t really find any cutback lanes. The Patriots also called all of his runs either up the middle or to the left. Henderson ran for just 2.55 YPC and failed to force a tackle after fellow RBs Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson fumbled their way to benchings in Week 3.
