DraftKings Bottom Line: Preseason DFS Week 1

Hey there Fantasy Points subs! It's your buddy Darren Manser, a.k.a. @BooBoojojo, and I'm thrilled to dive into the exciting world of Friday's 2023 Week 1 Preseason action with you. Get ready for a touchdown of insights and some quarterback sneak peeks.

I know the NFL preseason can be a bit like a choose-your-own-adventure book, with plenty of changes and updates along the way. But guess what? I've got your back. Join me over in the subscriber Discord's #nfl-dfs channel, a couple of hours before kickoff, for some good ol' fashioned Q&A. Trust me, that's where the magic happens.

QUARTERBACKS

KYLE TRASK | Tampa Bay vs. Pittsburgh | Steelers -1.5 | O/U: 39.5

Trask might be having a "better than Baker Mayfield" summer camp, and even though that's not a very high bar to jump over (no offense, Baker), what we really care about in preseason DFS is playing time. Trask is set to rock the second half of the game this week, and he's been showing off his running skills in camp. Baker's kicking off the game, and then it's Kyle's turn. Reports seem to indicate this is a full-blown competition. Plus, he's only $4600 on the Main Slate in Week 1 – a total steal if he ends up starting. Oh, and did I mention we've got a rare almost-40-point spread for this preseason game? Let’s ride that Vegas line.

DORIAN THOMPSON-ROBINSON | Cleveland vs. Washington | Commanders -2.5 | O/U: 38.5

UPDATE: It Looks like Deshaun Watson will be starting the game and it could end up being a four-QB rotation NO THANKS. With this new info, I’m out on DTR.

I was on SiriusXM with John Hansen last Thursday, and I called it then, and I'm calling it now – DTR is the one to watch. He lit up the scoreboard last time, showcasing his athleticism in a way that had us all on the edge of our seats. He’ll be a popular pick this week, but he’ll be worth

It.

SKYLAR THOMPSON | Miami vs. Atlanta | Falcons -2.5 | O/U: 36.5

If you're a preseason DFS veteran, you’ve clicked this name before. He held his own last year, even stepping onto the regular season stage when Tua Tagovailoa was out of the spotlight. With Tua likely sitting this one out, it's a showdown between Skylar and Mike White for the backup spotlight. I saw some serious potential in him last year, so you can bet he's joining me for a stroll in my lineup park.

RUNNING BACKS

JOHN LOVETT | Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay | Steelers -1.5 | O/U: 39.5

The former Penn State star signed up with the Steelers recently, and let me tell you – he's got some game. Remember his XFL Vipers days? I'm telling you, this guy's got potential. With Najee Harris and company possibly taking a back seat, Lovett could be our sneaky star of the second half. Go ahead, add a sprinkle of Lovett to your lineup stew.

JALEEL MCLAUGHLIN | Denver at Arizona | Broncos -2.5 | O/U: 36.5

This young gun racked up over 1500 yards and 11 touchdowns at Youngstown State. Sure, he went undrafted, but he's fighting tooth and nail for that #3 spot. I've been glued to my screen, tracking reports since May, and let me tell you – the buzz is real. He's a Manzer kind of guy, just like John Hansen would say. Get ready to see some fireworks.

DEMETRIC FELTON | Cleveland vs. Washington | Commanders -2.5 | O/U: 38.5

I sang his praises on Hansen's radio show, and let me tell you why – this guy's got pass-catching magic up his sleeves. The Browns might be feeling the wide receiver pinch, and Felton could be the answer they're looking for. He impressed last week, rushing 7 times for 46 yards and 1 TD, and also snagging 2 catches for 9 yards. While everyone might be eyeing John Kelly, who’s a good play in his own right, I'm sticking with Felton for that multi-dimensional spark.

ALTERNATIVES

John Kelly | Cleveland

Tyler Goodson | Green Bay

WIDE RECEIVERS

DEVEN THOMPKINS | Tampa Bay vs. Pittsburgh | Steelers -1.5 | O/U: 39.5

What's a touchdown without some dazzling catches, right? Thompkins has been setting the field ablaze since May. In 2021, the undersized Thompkins — 154 pounds — dominated the Mountain West at Utah State. Tyler Johnson's out, and Thompkins is here to seize the spotlight.

JOSH ALI | Atlanta at Miami | Falcons -2.5 | O/U: 36.5

Ali, a second-year prospect out of Kentucky, might've only played a couple of games with the Falcons last year, but hey, these games are his chance to shine. The Falcons need another pass catcher, and Ali's stepping up to the plate. Will he hit it out of the park? Time will tell, but I'm rooting for this underdog.

ANDREI IOSIVAS | Cincinnati vs. Green Bay | Packers -1.5 | O/U: 35

Now, there's this nifty stat called the RAS (Relative Athletic Score) – it measures athletic prowess, and Iosivas blows it up — ranking 14th out of over 3000 wide receivers ranked from 1987 to 2023. He's been making summer magic happen, and I'm hoping the enchantment continues on Friday night. I've got a feeling he might fly under the radar, but hey, I've just put him in the spotlight.

ALTERNATIVES

MALIK HEATH | Green Bay Packers

MIKE HARLEY JR. | Cleveland Browns

Remember, I'll be hanging out in the chat a couple of hours before kickoff, ready to tackle your burning questions and help you finesse those last-minute lineup moves. Wishing you all the luck and excitement in the world as we dive into this preseason spectacle.
