Week 6 Sunday Morning Update

Hello and welcome to the Week 6 Sunday Morning Update. What is this article? Mostly it’s a follow-up to yesterday’s big DFS piece – Scott Barrett’s Week 5 DFS Breakdown. But this article should also offer some utility of its own for redraft and dynasty players.

Each week Graham Barfield and I will be breaking down the key injuries, news, and notes from Saturday / Sunday and will be updating this article up until kickoff (1PM EST). And we’ll also be providing a sort of TL;DR to yesterday’s big DFS article. Who are my core cash game plays? Who are Graham’s preferred low-owned plays for tournaments? You can find that at the end of this article.

Key News, Injury Updates, & Notes

Sunday Morning Update

(11:30am ET)

Terry McLaurin is ACTIVE.

Mike Williams is ACTIVE.

Kadarius Toney and Sterling Shepard are ACTIVE but Darius Slayton is OUT. Toney’s is a phenomenal play for the third-straight week.

TY Hilton is ACTIVE.

Sammy Watkins is OUT and Rashod Bateman is ACTIVE.

– The Ravens RBs this week are Latavius Murray, Devonta Freeman, and Le’Veon Bell.

(8:45am ET)

Melvin Gordon is EXPECTED TO PLAY.

Mike Williams is EXPECTED TO PLAY.

Damien Harris is EXPECTED TO PLAY.

Jarvis Landry is OUT.

NFL Network’s Tom Pellissero reports that while Kareem Hunt is going to play, he is “beat up” and that HC Kevin Stefanski has a “number of touches in mind.” This will take some of the steam off of Hunt’s ownership for sure and I believe Stefanski isn’t going to put 25 touches on Hunt’s plate especially with a short week around the corner (the Browns play on TNF).

Things I Think

I think the way I’m approaching this slate is: I’m going to be underweight on KC@WAS in cash, but massively overweight for tournaments.

Travis Kelce is egregiously mispriced, but still probably won’t be as highly owned as Mark Andrews or Ricky Seals-Jones. Tyreek Hill and Terry McLaurin are both banged up, so they’re hard to trust and weren’t super highly touted. But this game offers the highest over/under of the slate (55.5, +4.0 more than next-closest), with two of the league’s three worst pass defenses facing off against each other, and ownership projects to be at least a little lower than we’d typically expect.

LAC@BAL is the other obvious game-stack, and that will definitely be pretty highly owned. Dallas passing game options (with a Patriots bring-back) and LAR@NYG are also very in play, and won’t be nearly as highly owned.

Graham Barfield’s Contrarian Angles

Overlooked Stacks / Games

Baker Mayfield + Odell Beckham – This duo has not been able to get on the same page in three seasons, but with Chubb out and Hunt banged up, the leverage is to stack up Mayfield. Literally no one is going to want to play OBJ after last week’s dud. Run it back with Nuk Hopkins (more below).

Contrarian Plays With Slate-Breaking Upside

(Projected ownership in parenthesis).

RB

Ezekiel Elliott (5% DK | 6% FD) has huge TD upside and is going completely overlooked with so much RB value on this slate.

WR

Adam Thielen (6% DK | 2% FD) our Wes Huber is a huge fan of Thielen’s matchup

DeAndre Hopkins (5% DK | 5% FD) the Browns cornerbacks are banged up and Kyler Murray is injured, which should keep him in the pocket looking for his guy Nuk. Cleveland has given up huge ceiling games all year: Tyreek Hill (11/197/1), Brandin Cooks (9/78/1), Justin Jefferson (6/84/1), and Mike Williams (8/165/2).

TE

Tyler Higbee (2% DK | 5% FD) has seen great usage (sixth in route participation among TEs), but hasn’t seen the targets. He might get a bump here against this Giants defense that is facing the eighth-most targets per game.
