CFB Draftkings Cash and Single Entry: September 10

Week 2 is upon us!

Friday’s slate is filled with fun matchups that will produce plenty of fantasy action despite it being a four-game slate. Two games feature FCS teams that employ affordable options in this slate that will put up fantasy points for us and could give us an edge. I’m excited to see what Khalil Shakir can do with no snap count versus UTEP. Utah State’s Deven Thompkins is Blake Anderson’s new WR1. What does that mean for us?

Come find out…

Against the Spread Picks

UTEP (+26) vs Boise State

Total Wagers

Boise State vs UTEP (Over 55)
Coastal Carolina vs Kansas (Over 52)

Quarterbacks

Grayson McCall, Coastal Carolina vs Kansas (DK: $8.9K | FD: NA | O/U: 52.0 | Implied: 39.0)

Grayson McCall and the Chanticleers picked up where they left off last year with a dominating victory last week. McCall didn’t really have to do much as the running game was clicking on all cylinders, but still put up 262 yards through the air along with an additional 24 yards on the ground. Last year, McCall broke out versus Kansas in his first career start with 36.62 FPs. At $8.9K, McCall is the highest priced player on this slate, yet, he is worth paying up for with limited options at QB on Friday night.

Jalen Fowler, North Carolina A&T vs Duke (DK: $5.7K | FD: NA | O/U: NA | Implied: NA)

Jalen Fowler scored the most FPs last week (21.6) of any QB on the slate, but is the lowest-priced starting QB at $5.7K. In 2020, Duke was ranked 96th versus opposing QBs in FPG (26.7), and started off even worse in 2021 with a terrible performance versus Charlotte making Chris Reynolds look like a Heisman candidate to the tune of 37.9 FPs. Fowler is a dual-threat QB who threw for 268 yards along with 11 rushing attempts in his first career start. North Carolina A&T is very high on him as former QB, Lamar Raynard, believes he can break his single-season records. Fowler will hit value in this slate and is a must-have in our lineups.

Alternatives:

Hank Bachmeier, Boise State vs UTEP (DK: $7.2K | FD: $15.0K | O/U: 55.5 | Implied: 40.75)

Running Backs

Mataeo Durant, Duke vs North Carolina A&T (DK: $6.9K | FD: NA | O/U: NA | Implied: NA)

Mataeo Durant broke out in a big way as the focal point of the Duke offense in week 1. He had 31 touches for 292 yards and 3 TDs. Massive game. Durant touched the ball on 42.5% of Duke’s offensive plays. He scored 51.2 FPs on DK last week and is only $6.9K facing FCS opponent, North Carolina A&T, this week. He is a must-have in our lineup.

Otis Weah, North Dakota vs Utah State (DK: $5.4K | FD: NA | O/U: NA | Implied: NA)

Otis Weah had a big opener for North Dakota with 22 carries for 114 yards and 3 TDs. Utah State’s run defense was not very good last, week giving up 149 yards on 26 carries. They ranked 115th nationally in YPC (5.73) versus Washington State. North Dakota is a top-10 FCS team so they should be pretty competitive versus a lower FBS team like Utah State, meaning the game script should allow Weah to have plenty of carries. I’ll be confidently inserting him into all my lineups on Friday night.

Reese White, Coastal Carolina vs Kansas (DK: $4.7K | FD: NA | O/U: 52.0 | Implied: 39.0)

Honestly, I could write about Reese White or Shermari Jones here as both put up solid fantasy numbers last week during Coastal Carolina’s blowout versus The Citadel. Both had two touchdowns and 60-plus yards rushing on limited attempts in week 1. While Jones did outperform White in week 1, and is cheaper on DK, I prefer White in this matchup and long-term. White is the replacement for CJ Marable, who put up big numbers last year for Coastal Carolina. In closer games, White is the RB I believe will be featured by Coastal Carolina and we can fit him into our lineups this week.

Alternatives:

George Holani, Boise State vs UTEP (DK: $6.0K | FD: $12.5K | O/U: 55.5 | Implied: 40.75)

$4.5K-or-less options:

Ronald Awatt, UTEP vs Boise State, (DK: $3.7K | FD: $9.5K | O/U: 55.5 | Implied: 14.25)

Shermari Jones, Coastal Carolina vs Kansas (DK: $4.0K | FD: NA | O/U: 52.0 | Implied: 39.0)

Receivers

Khalil Shakir, Boise State vs UTEP (DK: $7.5K | FD: $16.0K | O/U: 55.5 | Implied: 40.75)

Khalil Shakir had a big week 1 versus UCF, scoring 26.8 FPs while only playing 21 of Boise State’s 64 offensive snaps due to Boise State having him on a snap count as a precaution. What makes his performance versus UCF so remarkable is that Shakir typically racks up FPs due to his market share domination in the Boise State receiving game. In 2020, Khalil Shakir dominated the receiving market share for Boise State with 37% of receptions, 42% of yards, and 50% of TDs. Due to his limited snaps versus UCF, that was not the case. With no snap count versus UTEP, Shakir will dominate the market share and hit value on DK at $7.5K.

Deven Thompkins, Utah State vs North Dakota (DK: $7.0K | FD: NA | O/U: NA | Implied: NA)

Deven Thompkins had a big night with 24.8 FP on 11 targets for 8 receptions, 94 yards, and a TD as Utah State shocked Washington State. For those that love to dig deep into college football, we know that Utah State HC Blake Anderson loves to feature one WR. The last three years at Arkansas State, Anderson’s WR1 averaged 85 receptions, 1,256 yards and 12 TDs. After posting a 28% target share in week 1, Thompkins is the WR1 for Utah State’s offense. He is in store for another big game versus FCS opponent, North Dakota, this week and comes in at an affordable $7.0K on DK.

Jaivon Heiligh, Coastal Carolina vs Kansas (DK: $8.0K | FD: NA | O/U: 52.0 | Implied: 39.0)

The Jaivon Heiligh and Grayson McCall connection picked up where it left off in 2020. Heiligh had a massive Week 1, with 6 catches for 133 yards and a TD on 7 targets. Much like last year, Heiligh dominated the target share (30.4%) for the Chanticleers. Last year versus Kansas, Heiligh had 3 catches for 74 yards and a TD. Those numbers should be his floor in this contest as Kansas focuses on slowing down the Coastal Carolina rushing attack. He is pricey at $8.0K, but I still think he can hit value in this contest.

Ron Hunt, North Carolina A&T vs Duke (DK: $3.9K | FD: NA | O/U: NA | Implied: NA)

Ron Hunt was by far Jalen Fowler’s favorite target week 1 as he caught 5 passes for 146 and 2 TDs. The rest of the Aggies’ receiving core combined for 9 catches for 102 yards. Needless to say, Hunt was the dominant WR1 for the Aggies in week 1. Last week, Duke allowed two Charlotte WRs to catch 4+ balls for 118+ receiving yards so there will be plenty of opportunity for Hunt to build on his week 1 success. At $3.9K, Hunt is a must to stack with Fowler in this slate.

Alternatives:

Jacob Cowing, UTEP vs Boise State, (DK: $5.2K | FD: $12.0K | O/U: 55.5 | Implied: 14.25)

Jake Bobo, Duke vs North Carolina A&T (DK: $5.1K | FD: NA | O/U: NA | Implied: NA)

Isaiah Likely, Coastal Carolina vs Kansas (DK: $4.8K | FD: NA | O/U: 52.0 | Implied: 39.0)

$4.5K-or-less options:

Justin Garrett, UTEP vs Boise State, (DK: $4.0K | FD: $8.5 | O/U: 55.5 | Implied: 14.25)
