The Cowboys worked out McTyer on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
McTyer (knee) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
McTyer tore his ACL during Sunday's contest against the Falcons and will miss the rest of the season, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
McTyer (concussion) isn't listed on Washington's injury report Wednesday.
Coach Ron Rivera said McTyer's (concussion) impressive showing at training camp played a role in Washington's decision to release former nickel corner Jimmy Moreland, Sam Fortier of The Washington Post reports.
McTyer suffered a concussion during Saturday's preseason contest against the Ravens.
